Charlottes Web - Post Two

In Charlottes Web I've noticed E.B. White uses beautiful description to symbolize deeper meanings of the book. "Lilacs bloom and make the air sweet, and then fade." (p.42) This helps show a serious and main theme in the book (death) with a nice image and description. Another thing is how White describes Charlotte. "She was the size of a gumdrop." (p.37) The line make her seem very sweet and delicate which isn't how most people consider spiders. Also, when Charlotte is killing a fly in her web it take on a more magical quality then a gross and scary one. "She grabbed the fly, threw a few jets of silk around it." This continues to occur when Charlotte dies. The scene is somewhat scary, but written in such a nice way. He makes loss not scary, but okay.  I have found that White takes things that most people find scary (death and spiders) and turns them into something beautiful with his words.
